Copenhagen guide | part 1

Bierback's guide to

VESTERBRO

This is the first part that will cover the area that has been announced as one of the 10 coolest neighbourhoods to visit right now by Lonely Planet; Vesterbro.

To get to Vesterbro, coming from the city centre, you'll need to pass a couple of what some might consider less charming blocks. But once you get to the "right" side, there's a bunch of interesting streets to wander. Vesterbro has become more hip(ster) than Nørrebro, and keep surprising us with new shops, bars and restaurants. Get on your rented bike and join me on a ride to my favourite spots.

Much love,

Emelie

Bagerstræde 9, 1617 Copenhagen. Probably the best Aperol Spritz we've had in Copenhagen and simply delicious pasta. The spacious room is open all the way down to the kitchen and the minimalistic interior leaves the food, the wine and the atmosphere in focus.

Istedgade 124, 1650 Copenhagen. The Organic Club is not only a clothes swapping members club, it's an oasis filled with organic items for your home, body and soul.

Enghave Pl. 7, 1670 Copenhagen. Danes love their bakeries. And I love them for loving them because the standard is (almost) always high. There are of course a few that I consider better than others, and Bageriet Brød is one of them. Their lemon meringue tart is worth every krone and we can't wait for the Metro station to open straight outside and the park to re-open. This will make this sweet spot even sweeter.

Sønder Blvd. 53, 1720 Copenhagen. Located not far from Halmtorvet and Kødbyen you'll find Kihoskh, a most convenient convenience store. Grab a few beers and enjoy them at their outdoor seating, overlooking the park that are coming back to life after ages of Metro construction work.

Kødbyen, 1711 Copenhagen. Located 10 minutes on foot from the main station (Hovedbanegården) and with an excellent choice of bars, cafés, restaurants and clubs, Copenhagen's meatpacking district is a must visit. Go experience the great selection, it's hard to go wrong, but we highly recommend Fleisch, Prolog, Kødbyens Fiskebar and Cock's & Cows.

Enghavevej 40, 1674 Copenhagen. Folkets Hus, The People's House, was designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen built in the 1950's and served as the stronghold of the Danish worker's union movement. After being left to an uncertain destiny in the early 90's, it was restored in 1996 and reopened as The House of Music. The interior is still the same, and these days you can look forward to see artists and bands such as Jenny Wilson, Franz Ferdinand, Liam Gallagher and The Human League play in these spectacular retro premises.
